Games Workshop Crawlocke The Jailor and Chainghasts Warhammer Age of Sigmar

Our Rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Spirit Torment is a fantastic Hero unit for your Games Workshop Warhammer Age of Sigmar Nighthaunt army.  The Spirit Torment is one of those heroes that can find a place in just about any Nighthaunt list.  I also bought a second one off of a popular auction website because I had to be able to run more than one of them. The Spirit Torment is available in either the Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Soul Wars starter set, or as a single model and in a stand alone box as the named character Crawlocke the Jailor.  Crawlocke is a great option to get a second Spirit Torment as the box also comes with a unit of two Chainghasts if you already own the Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Soul Wars starter set.

The Spirit Torment has two abilities of note for boosting your other units like Chainrasp Hordes or Glaivewraith Stalkers. Captured Soul Energy can heal lost wounds or return slain models to a unit at the beginning of the battleshock phase as long as three or more enemy models were slain during the turn in any phase.  Which is important because the models returned come back before any battleshock test are taken. With bravery ten, most nighthuant units rarely fail battleshock tests, but units of larger model counts are more susceptible to failure if they lose a lot of models.  This ability helps ensure you are never failing battleshock test and your units stay as strong as possible. And this ability can be used by as many Spirit Torments as you have in your list for every three enemy models slain during the turn!

The Spirit Torment’s Nagash’s Bidding ability allows any friendly Nighthaunt unit with twelve inches of the Spirit Torment re-roll hit rolls of a one.  This ability makes the Spirit Torment pair great with a Guardian of Souls and his Nightmare Lantern adding one to the wound rolls of friendly Nighthaunt units within nine inches. The Spirit Torment is a must buy for any Warhammer Age of Sigmar Nighthuant army and I highly recommend running more than one if you can fit them in your lists.

Games Workshop Fine Cast Vampire Counts Tomb Banshee

Our Rating: 4 of 5 stars

Review by: Dad

“Tomb Banshee are apparitions of revenge who have long dwelt upon the dark deed that robbed them of vitality, love or contentment, becoming bitter and hate-filled.  A single scream from a Tomb Banshee can freeze the life from even the bravest warrior” – Games Workshop Tomb Banshee flavor text.

The Tomb Banshee is a great filler hero unit for Warhammer Age of Sigmar Nighthaunt armies.  Tomb Banshees are equipped with a Chill Dagger that does an automatic D3 mortal wounds on a natural six to-hit roll just like Myrmourn Banshees. The Chill Dagger normally does one attack hits on a four plus and wounds on a three plus with minus two rend and D3 damage for each wound. Which is still pretty decent if it goes in.

The only other ability of note for a Tomb Banshee is their Ghostly Howl.  You can use Ghostly Howl during the shooting phase to target an enemy unit within ten inches of the Tomb Banshee and roll two six sided dice. If the total of the dice is higher than the target units bravery statistic it suffers a number of mortal wounds equal to the difference.

The Tomb Banshee is most effective if you keep her out of close combat so she stays alive longer and can use her other ability Ghostly Howl in as many turns as possible before she goes down. However, Ghostly Howl is only effective facing a force of mostly low bravery units like Skaven. Making her points or warscroll cost only worth it if you know you will be facing mostly low bravery units.  She does make a great filler unit if you have less than one hundred points available left over in your list.  The Tomb Banshee pairs up great with unit of Myrmourn Banshees to give her some protection. Check her out for yourself and see how far you can push Ghostly Howl in your own games of Games Workshop’s Warhammer Age of Sigmar.

Games Workshop Warhammer Spirit Hosts

Our Rating: 4 of 5 stars

Review By: Dad

Games Workshop Spirit Hosts are a fun little unit for your Nighthaunt army in games of Warhammer Age of Sigmar.  Spirit Hosts are available in a unit of three in their own box and in the Start Collecting: Malignants box.  Units of Spirit Hosts can be any number of models but I highly recommend taking them in a minimum unit of at least three.  A unit of three is only one hundred and twenty points per the 2018 Generals Handbook which makes this the perfect filler for that last bit of points in your list.  And boy are they worth the points even in units of only three.

Spirit Hosts are also a battleline unit if your army has the Nighthaunt allegiance so taking massive amounts of them and spamming their crazy six attacks per model is viable. Spirit Hosts are tough with three wounds each and a four plus save. While they only hit on a five plus and wound on a four plus, their number of attacks generally guarantees wounds going through every round of combat.  And if the hit roll is a six, they inflict an automatic mortal wound!

The sculpts of the models are really cool looking with each model having three spirits floating around with their Spectral Daggers.  However, whoever designed the model and build instructions was a sadist. There are so many little bits that you can accidently break off cleaning up leftover sprue on the pieces.  And there are several points where you have to glue pieces together and let them sit for a while before gluing on the next piece. This makes building the models themselves a rather tedious and delicate process. And they are as delicate once built as a lot of other Nighthaunt models, so they have to be more carefully stored and transported.

Spirit Hosts are a fantastic option for your games of Warhammer Age of Sigmar by Games Workshop.  They do well as long as you take at least a minimum unit of three, and can really put the hurt on in units of nine or twelve.  Check them out for your Nighthaunt army today!
